How to convert GiB to MiB
MiB = GiB × 1,024. The scale factor is the source-unit factor divided by the destination-unit factor.
Worked example
For a file size or storage capacity of 500 GiB converts to 512,000 MiB.
- Start with 500 GiB.
- Multiply 500 by 1,024.
- Report 512,000 MiB, rounded to the precision of your original measurement.

Definitions that matter
A byte is eight bits. MB is not MiB, and GB is not GiB. Storage capacities are quantities; data-transfer rates such as Mbps add a time dimension and are not included here.
The base unit for this category is B. One GiB corresponds to 1,073,741,824 byte; one MiB corresponds to 1,048,576 byte. These definitions explain the relationship rather than relying on a rounded display value.
