How to convert bit to B
B = bit × 0.125. The scale factor is the source-unit factor divided by the destination-unit factor.
Worked example
For a file size or storage capacity of 500 bit converts to 62.5 B.
- Start with 500 bit.
- Multiply 500 by 0.125.
- Report 62.5 B, rounded to the precision of your original measurement.
Check the reverse conversion

Definitions that matter
A byte is eight bits. MB is not MiB, and GB is not GiB. Storage capacities are quantities; data-transfer rates such as Mbps add a time dimension and are not included here.
